Les Arcs 1950 (1950m)

Les Arcs 1950 - at the heart of les Arcs The ski village of Les Arcs 1950 is a new resort that opened in December 2003. Les Arcs 1950 was designed and built by Intrawest, a Canadian company which specialises in developing stylish ski resort villages incorporating lots of upmarket accommodation. The resort marketing includes descriptions such as "Where North America Meets Europe".

Les Arcs 1950 is just down the hill from Arcs 2000 and linked to it by a gondola which operates until late each day.
Ski & Snowboard Access: Les Arcs 1950 has superb ski access with almost all accommodation ski door to door. There are several ski lifts right next to Les Arcs 1950: one gives access to the skiing above Arc 2000; another access to Les Arcs 1800 and Peisey/ Vallandry. There is a lovely blue ski run leading from the village down to the Pre St Esprit chairlift bringing you back above Arc 1950; the Comberciere chairlift from the same point provides for a more challenging ski on the black piste of the same name.
Accommodation Summary: The village of les Arcs 1950 has been designed and built in a manner sympathetic to the mountains around a traffic-free cobbled square. There is a mixture of ski accommodation available, almost exclusively 4-star: there is a mixture of hotels and self-catering apartments. The ski apartments are generally more spacious and furnished to a much higher standard than is usual in French ski resorts.

Accommodation in les Arcs 1950 can be booked through the specialist ski travel agency Snow Hounds.

For childcare in les Arcs 1950 Les Farfadets offers private nannies. Otherwise there are crèches available through some British holiday companies such as Ski Beat in Plan Peisey, les Arcs but this is only offered to those staying in their catered ski chalets.
The biggest selection of ski apartments in Les Arcs is probably available in Les Arcs 1800:

Apres Ski: There are two bars in les Arcs 1950: Les Belles Pintes and Chalet Luigi. Chalet Luigi has a restaurant, bar and night club. There are a total of eight restaurants in les Arcs.
There is a good selection of shops and boutiques available including several food shops, a mini-market, a jewellers, a souvenir shop and small pharmacy.
Ski Schools: New for December 2006 is the Cariboo Kids Club that offers both a creche service and ski instruction for children of various ages.
The only ski school in les Arcs 1950 is Spirit 1950.
Hire Shops: There are three shops for hiring ski and snowboarding equipment.
