Les Arcs 1600 (1600m)

Arcs 1600 was the original village of Les Arcs, it has been open for almost 40 ski seasons. Arcs 1600 is at the top of funicular railway from Bourg St. Maurice so a great choice if you arrive by either daytime or overnight train.

Arcs 1600 is set in the trees and has a friendly, small scale atmosphere and enjoys views along the Tarentaise Valley and towards Mont Blanc making this an ideal option for those wanting to benefit from an extensive ski area such as Paradiski whilst staying in a more tranquil environment than neighbouring Arc 1800.

The central area is particularly good for families as it is uncrowded, compact and set on even ground.

Free shuttle bus services run between Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950 et Arc 2000.
Ski & Snowboard Access: There is good ski and snowboarding access with three chairlifts out of the village and a selection of blue and red runs back after a day on the ski slopes.
South-west facing and with extensive tree-lined skiing enabling descents to the unspoilt villages below resort level, Arc 1600 is an 'all weather' ski area that holds the snow well. Artificial snow-making machines also mean that skiing back to the village is virtually guaranteed.
Accommodation Summary: In les Arcs 1600 almost all of the accommodation is self-catering ski apartments; there are a couple of 2* hotels and one 3* hotel. Quite a lot of the accommodation is ski in ski out.
For childcare in les Arcs Les Farfadets offers private nannies. Otherwise there are crèches available through some British holiday companies such as Ski Beat in Plan Peisey, les Arcs but this is only offered to those staying in their catered ski chalets.
The biggest selection of ski apartments in Les Arcs is probably available in Les Arcs 1800:

Apres Ski: Apres Ski in Arcs 1600 includes a cinema, sauna, restaurants, bars and a nightclub. You can take the funicular railway to Bourg St Maurice for a more extensive range of shops. For non skiiers or if you want to try something different there are horse drawn sleighs rides and snowshoeing to try.
Ski Schools: There is only the ESF in les Arcs 1600, we have not had any reports on them.
Hire Shops: In les Arcs 1600 you will find a total of seven ski hire shops. They should be able to provide for all your skiing and snowboarding equipment needs.
